History and architecture<\/h2>\n

The office occupies a portion of the building adjacent to the\u00a0 <\/span>monumental entrance\u00a0 <\/span>of the industrial\u00a0 <\/span>“Lanifici Rivetti”. This enormous\u00a0 <\/span>complex of buildings was built at\u00a0 <\/span>the turn of the 19th\u00a0 <\/span>and 20th century.\u00a0 <\/span>The huge\u00a0 <\/span>entrance gates now stand between Via della Repubblica n. 8, and Via Carso on the ridge dominating the right side of\u00a0 <\/span>the river Cervo. In 1886\u00a0 <\/span>Giuseppe Rivetti moved\u00a0 <\/span>here and progressively expanded the textile activity he had started\u00a0 <\/span>in Valle Mosso\u00a0 <\/span>in 1872.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The activity grew so rapidly that the wool mills became one of the\u00a0 <\/span>historical enterprises in Biella. Already by 1922 \u00a0 <\/span>three\u00a0 <\/span>thousand people were employed, giving prestige and economic well-being to the territory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting from the early 60s the activity stopped\u00a0 <\/span>and its spaces were progressively abandoned. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“In those years, as a child, I remember\u00a0 <\/span>that\u00a0 <\/span>I played there all kinds of games\u00a0 <\/span>and sports. Little\u00a0 <\/span>could I have\u00a0 <\/span>imagined that in the future I would\u00a0 <\/span>work here”. The current meeting room of the office still maintains the\u00a0 <\/span>characteristic beamed structure of the ceiling and the “industrial” style that characterized the place. On April 20th, 1993, part of the still existing buildings – including the one where the office is – were declared of historical and cultural interest by the\u00a0 <\/span>Superintendent’s order transcribed to the “Agenzia del Territorio” on March 6th, 1995.<\/p>\n
